HS Relay qualifying events set for Reebok Grand Prix

NEW YORK (March 14, 2008) – The New York Relays and St. Anthony's Invitational will serve as automatic qualifiers for the popular high school relays at the Reebok Grand Prix, organizers announced today.

The fourth-annual Reebok Grand Prix, at Icahn Stadium on Randall's Island, has played host to several World and American Records and featured superstar athletes including Tyson Gay, Meseret Defar, Allyson Felix, Alan Webb, Craig Mottram, Jenn Stuczynski, Veronica Campbell, Lauryn Williams and Liu Xiang. This year, Olympic gold-medal hopefuls will journey from the Big Apple to Beijing, offering high-school athletes a chance to compete on the same track as the brightest stars in the sport.

Relays at this year's Reebok Grand Prix, on May 31, will include a 4x400m for girls and a 4x100m, 4x400m and 4x800m for boys. Two teams in each event will automatically qualify at the New York Relays at Icahn Stadium on April 18-19; one team in the girls’ 4x400, boys’ 4x100 and boys’ 4x400 and two teams in the boys’ 4x800m will automatically qualify at the St. Anthony's Invitational at St. Anthony's High School in South Huntington, L.I., on May 2-3.

In addition to the teams qualifying at these events, several at-large selections will be made by Reebok Grand Prix meet organizers.
