March 19, 2011 - PSAL Season Opener
The cold weather didn't slow down the PSAL
athletes this past Saturday at the PSAL Season
Opener as the meet saw 73 automatic and 20
provisional qualifiers for the 2011 PSAL City
Championships.
On the boys side we saw impressive
performances came from Justin Ventour of Tilden
HS running 23.00 in the Varsity 200m dash and
Samual Philbrick of Brooklyn Tech HS running
4:38.38 in the 1600m run.
When it was time for the girls to take the
track the action kicked off with Stephanie Doyle
taking the gold in the 400m hurdles running and
early season opener of 1:11.16 earning a spot in
the city championships. On the distance
side Jhanee Sterrett of Boys and Girls ran
5:10.54 in the 1500m and Victoria Stepanove of
LaGuardia HS ran 7:55.29 in the 2000m
Steeplechase.

March 20, 2011 - CHSAA Season Opener
A variety of schools were able to take home gold medals at this years event. On the Track two teams were double winners as St. John's Prep pulled out victories in the 3200m Relay running 9:08.31 then came back to take the Distance Medley Relay running 11:29.13. Kellenberg High School managed to sweep the hurdle events as it won the three man shuttle hurdles at 53.49 and the three man intermediate hurdle relays at 3:15.47.
The field events also saw two teams take home double gold's as St Anthony's won the Long Jump Relay with a combined jump of 34'10.25" and the Discus Throw Relay with a total throw of 255'4". Mount Saint Michael's took the counter events as they won the Triple Jump Relay at 78'4" and the Shot Put Relay with 86'2".
On the girls side Ursuline took the title in all three varisty relays; 800m Relay, 1600m Relay, and 3200m Relay with Christ the King, Archbishop Molloy, and St. Francis Prep all taking home a field event relay title.
